After several weekends of chilling at home, we set off Saturday for a 2.5 hour train ride to Geneva. The views from the train along Lake Geneva were amazing, with the Alps in the background, the crystal clear lake in front, and vineyards lining the water front. My favorite was passing the little towns along the way, each with their own unique little church that dominates the center. With the way I book hotel rooms, we just never know what we are in for, as the cheapest room usually seals the deal for me. We lucked out with a super central location (how could it not be with the name, Hotel Central?), and a decent yet tiny room.
Geneva was much smaller than Zurich. We found our way down to the water front to the famous landmark Jet D' Eau - a massive water fountain that sprays hundreds of feet in to the air. Seems there is always an old town to each Swiss city, and this usually holds the most interesting sites. We climbed the church tower for some great views of the city. The church tower stairs are always a bit scary...super steep and tight, and one of us usually ends up having to carry Chance which makes it even more challenging. Nonetheless it is a great workout, and by the end of it our legs are shaking from so much climbing. Views were great though.
Some how on all our little excursions we always end up at a playground or too. Chance's
memories of each trip I am sure will be the many playgrounds he has played on throughout Europe. This one was particularly interesting as it was built on top of an old prison. We could see a glimpse of the ruins thru a small roped off area in the middle of the play area. If the playground wasn't already enough, we bought 6 rides on the merry go round and that was a big hit, so big that tears started flowing when the last ride was done.

It looked as if it was frozen in time from the 1300's. Spent the day there, browsing all the little shops that lined the skinny cobblestoned streets. And of course a day is not complete without an ice cream cone. Europeans love their ice cream.
Monday morning we headed for a tour of the UN. Dealing with government
run tours in any form are always inefficient, and poorly organized. Security check, passport check, entrance fee, and another 45 minute wait later, we were able to join a tour to see inside the UN. Basically it was just meeting room after meeting room. They took us to see the beautifully painted Disarmament Room and the famous meeting room that you tend to see on TV. That was about the just of the tour.....a little over rated but no trip to Geneva is complete without it.

It's just too hard with a munchkin! Enjoy the pics of Geneva posted in the left hand column.
