Originally when we sent out the invitations, we planned to have everyone up to the ice skating rink in the forest above our house. It's a huge open rink, and from the outside seemed like a fantastic venue to host a party. Well that idea was squelched 2 weeks ago when we went for a trial run. From complications at the entrance, to a nightmare of tears on the ice, we decided to spare everyone the frustration and move the party to Starbie an indoor play place that the kids absolutely love, and it's great for the adults too. Unlike in the States, we are a little more lax here when it comes to watching our kids like a hawk. Starbie is small enough that we know our kids are safe without having to keep a constant watch. We are able to sit with all the adults, drink cappuccinos and let the kids run and play, and we know that about every 5 minutes we'll see one of them run by.
I think a great business for Switzerland would be a bakery that made special kids cakes....you know like you can order from the HEB back home. Well, they don't have that here and the cake is always the mother's drama of the event. We aren't exactly Better Crocker here and making the perfect cake for your kids party seems to be quite a nightmare. So I decided to brave it and make the first cake I've ever done. After lots of advice from my friends from how to get it to come out of the pan, to how to ice the darn thing, I took the plunge and made Chance a batman cake. It turned out alright. It wasn't the best tasting thing, and the words were off center, but other than that Chance thought it was great and that was all that mattered! When the lady first brought it out he froze up and had the worst look of stage fright on his face. Hopefully he's not taking after his mom!
Chance is currently in love with an 8 year old from Sweden that goes to his school. It's so cute cause she thinks Chance speaks English really well, and he thinks she hung the moon. He wanted her at his party, and was so intent on having her sit next to him that he made sure that her cup (labeled with her name on it) was strategically placed next to his at the head of the lunch table. He rode cars with her, and they were pretty much inseparable the whole time.
This picture cracks me up with him standing next to Nora and her sister Ebba....he seems pretty darn happy!
And of course Chance's best friends were there too. Jack, Gabriella and Ava wouldn't have missed it, and we equally enjoyed the company of their parents. It's always so nice to have your good friends around!
Chance fell asleep on the way home he was so exhausted. And when he awoke he got right to opening all his birthday gifts!
