It seems like when you talk to anybody about traveling to Switzerland, the only place they've been to or'd like to go is INTERLAKEN. Its been weighing on me to get down to this supposed hot spot and check it out, so we headed south last weekend and found ourselves at Katy's B&B. Some little dive (not too bad really!) near the train station. We arrived to find it not what we pictured! Very touristy and really lacking and Swiss charm that you'd find in other towns. The draw is that it is a portal for all sorts of adventure sports (I'll go ahead and stay away from the sky diving, although the paragliding looked quite tempting). The mountains that surrounded the town were covered in what looked like ants teaming on them and above them.....it was paragliders EVERYWHERE! We took the advice of my friend Jane who was there a week before us and headed up to this hilltop called the Heimwehfluh, where we found a fun toboggan run and a zip line among other things. We were low on cash so money would buy sadly only one ride on the toboggan for Ryan and Chance, so I waited at the top in a moment of mommy peace, admiring the amazing mountains looming above me. Chance's favorite part was the zip line, where he'd sit on it and zoom thru the trees at heights that made my stomach turn to watch him. Brave little guy. I can't believe we let him do that by himself!
The next day we woke and took a 20 minute bus ride down Lake Thun to the St. Beatus caves (http://www.beatushoehlen.ch/e/anlage/). Out front there was a huge waterfall. Then, we took the 1 hour tour with Chance walking the whole way. Pictures inside the caves were not allowed, but lucky for us the guide would speak to us in English and then send us ahead a bit while he said the same thing in German, so Ryan was snapping away. We were about 400 meters directly below a town! Very cool. Chance was a trouper but definitely had his moments of not wanting to walk, which is not so good when you are on a tiny cave path and have tons of people behind you!
So we are back to the grind in Zurich this week, Chance is in school and I am in full gear preparing for our soon arrivals, Stirling and the Baganz family there after. Looking forward to the company!
