Oeschinensee Adventures with Josh and Katherine

The weekend before we left for Texas, we met Josh and Katherine in the middle of Switzerland (they live in Geneva) at a small lake high in the mountains called the Oechinensee. We landed in Kandersteg, a small village near Interlaken, hiked 15 minutes to the chairlift that wisked us in to the clouds. From the top of the lift, we hiked another 15 minutes to reach the hotel, rounding the corner our eyes cought a glimpse of this amazing hidden wonder...

We spent the evenings grilling out across the lake, throwing the arobee and enjoying the mountain air. Saturday we rented a row boat and adventured across the lake to explore the many waterfalls that poured in to the lake. Ryan and Josh braved the ice cold water flowing directly down from the melting glaciers and and then swam in the freezing lake. Chance actually rowed us for quite awile, I couldn't believe he could handle the huge oars! Somehow our one hour boat rental turned in to 2.5 hours as we realized how big the lake actually was!

No summer weekend trip is complete without a toboggan run. This one was 750 meters long and Chance managed to squeeze over 10 rides out of us...going with all of us over and over. And the kid loves high speeds.....at one point he had a grip so hard on the lever that it was hard for me to pull back on it to slow us down!

The weekend turned out to be so much fun for us, although we always wonder if we leave our kid-less friends a little less than eager to start families of their own! Can't wait to see Josh and Katherine again soon.

If you want to see tons more pics of our trip taken by Katherine and Josh, check out their pictures too.
